Firing Billy

It has been strangely quiet in my office today so I spent a lot of time thinking about how I had to fire a cleaner who has been with us for eight years. He was caught stealing from tenants and we got him on video so I figured he wouldn’t put up a fight. I always thought he was a good guy so I was not looking forward to firing him. So, about a half hour ago I took him into the back office and broke the news. He took it like a man and I said we weren’t going to press charges. Still visibly upset (and not leaving) I suggested other employment options for him and offered any other help he needed. He then shook his head and told me that he would have some trouble finding another job since while under our employ he “killed a man”. He didn’t go into detail and I didn’t think it was my place to ask since we just fired him. He seemed so nonchalant about it like it was an inconvenience like an old DUI he can’t get off his record.

I didn’t see that one coming at all.

The Flame

Today the office manager asked me politely not to play Cheap Trick in the office anymore. I am kind of embarrassed and I don’t embarrass easily. This means it was discussed before I was confronted. What’s wrong with Cheap Trick? Yeah, it’s a little dated and cheesy but its good work music and if I play it loud enough the lush instrumentals cover her incessant mumbling.

Holding Out For a Hero

Despite the sexy come hither pose, this former coworker at the Philadelphia Museum of Art has never known a man intimately. I think there is something to be said for someone who is willing to hold on to her innocence until she finds her true love. In this day in age that is so rare and I applaud her.

Pandora's Box

Probably the best way to describe my life. Unanticipated consequences and most often the result of bad decision making encouraged by my closest friends for their entertainment. "Holy Shit! She actually did that? I thought she knew I was joking. Hilarious!" You know who you are. Its ok, I should know better but sadly, I really don't. Makes for excellent party stories and hopefully now posts.
This John William Waterhouse painting is the stuff posters in college girl's dorm rooms are made of. Not that its a bad thing.
