Ugh! I can’t find this webpage I found back when I was working at the Art Museum. I thought it would be fun to have Where’s Waldo desktop background so I Google image searched it and found a drawing of a sexy lizard by some weird middle aged guy in a fishing vest who lived in his father’s basement. After making the sexy lizard picture Andy’s background when he was at lunch, Keith, Andy, and me were fascinated by this underground world of furries/plushies. None of us had any idea such a thing existed!

I completely forgot all about that until I stumbled up on this picture (don’t look if you are easily weirded out) http://www.arclight.net/~pdb/prints-design/come-in-or-go-print.jpeg
Is this healthy fantasy or just plain creepy? It seems to me that you are either into this shit or you're not; there is no “well only sometimes my wife and I like open a bottle of wine, light some candles, pop in a Sade CD, put on animal costumes and make love”. I don’t think it is like satin handcuffs or edible panties. I am all for having fun with sex and sexuality in healthy safe ways so I don’t judge these people but apparently some do.

they had a CSI (regular, original CSI) about this, I thought that they were just making it up. How yucky. Looking at those costumes I can just smell the B.O.
Actually, I knew about furries (Thanks, Dan Savage!) but I probably didn't want to admit to that at work.
However, I must disagree with Colleen. I don't think that furryism can be an every time thing. It's just not practical. Can you imaging going up to the attic or down to the basement or wherever you keep your costume and then get all dressed up every time you wanted to have sex? It's a bit of a production and I imagine they save it for special occasions.
if they use them everytime they have sex then they probably don't store them in the attic or basement. probably in the closet or under the bed.
I was thinking about the ones who use the full mascot costumes but you're right, a lot of them could just keep their stuff in the bedroom. Still, it seems like a lot of work and I bet they appreciate a costume-free quickie every now and then.
or at least just put on the animal head part for the quickie!
Now, that would just be weird.
Now, granted, I only skimmed that wikipedia entry, but sci-fi conventions, comic book conventions, role playing......
I don't think that these people need to worry too much about their availability for a quickie.
I'm pretty much getting the impression that the only time sex comes up is when they reach that level in the RP game in which they must have sex with the cheetah princess in order to achieve the hot magma dagger needed to advance to the next level.
and for the ones that are in a furry relationship in which furry sex is the main interest.....I would assume that those people never take their costumes off, they just live their life the way they feel most comfortable.... behind the vail of a furry mammal suit. And then they mate with emotionally unstable individuals, kidnap victims, or "wives" they found on the internet and rescued from underdeveloped countries.
Most of them probably only have sex either at the conventions or their parties that they have. I saw that CSI too and I had never heard about it until that episode. It was on a couple years back. It was kind of gross and I can't imagine being in one of those costumes trying to get it on. Doesn't that stuff get in the way? It is these people's way of role playing animal husbandry literally. It just goes to show that everybody is weird in their own way I guess.
I find it interesting that so many people are taking CSI seriously, as though it were some sort of scientific documentary, instead of what it really is: entertainment.
According to a recent study by UC Davis, only 18% of furries own fursuits: news coverage.
According to Anthrocon's 2007 attendance statistics, only 12% of its membership participated in the fursuit parade: Anthrocon 2007 membership stats.
-- Doug (a furry fan, but does not own any fursuits)
I don't think anyone is taking CSI seriously. The two people who mentioned it just said that's where they first heard about furries.
But Doug, why no fursuit? It sounds like you're not really commited to this whole thing.
Hey Doug, interesting feedback.
So..... what are you doing Saturday night?
Wow, I didn't realize these furries take this so seriously. You are correct, Keith. The only reason I mentioned CSI was because that is where I first heard of the concept of furries. Hey, Doug, I say to each his own. You don't have to go quoting facts to me for me to believe that what you and your furry friends are doing is acceptable. If that's what gets you off, then go for it.
And I also agree with Keith in the sense that if you are such a furry fan, then why no suit? I would think that you furries need to band together and show the world that you are committed to this cause with gusto, paws held high in usison for the greater good. Life's too short for anything less, don't you think Doug?
Kate I am going to tell Herbert that you are looking for dates behind his back. Unless... you are looking for the 2 of you?
Hey, do you think there are any gay furries? We may have someone to hook you up with.
Stop it you guys! You are going to scare away one of the two non friend Aut,Colleen that I know about!
Ignore them Doug. They are just being assholes. I really appriciate you comments so keep them comming. Tell your friends about the blog!
Wait, who is the other non friend fan? You mean that chick who posted in defense of Linda Rondstadt? Yeah, I had forgotten about her.
We are not trying to scare anyone away. But come on, if you are going to come on here and defend being a furry, then you better be prepared to take the criticism from the non-furries. I think this is just healthy debate.
If you follow Doug's link you'll see that furries break down thusly: 33% heterosexual, 26% homosexual, 37% bisexual and 8% "other"
So, Kate, you and your partner are in luck!
Also, Doug, how do you add html links to these coments? I've been trying to figure that out for months.
Unfortunately guys, I doubt that Doug is coming back to Aut, Colleen. I hope he does. Please come and defend all of furrydom to us non-furry humans.
I was actually talking about hooking him up with another friend, but he may work out for Kate and Herbert too. I know Herbert really likes it when Kate hasn't shaved her legs for awhile, so this could be even better!
Kate you know I am totally kidding. Nothing is better than your unshaved legs!
Well, shaved or unshaved, I still only have 2 of them.
And Herbert grew up in the jungle, he views all animals with a bit of fear and a bit of respect.
I simply was curious about what a costumeless furry who doesn't enjoy CSI does on a Saturday night.
PS: didn't Chris already try the furry thing?
anyone remember Craig??
I wouldn't be so proud of that Kate. What I recall from CIA-sponsored, anti-communist parables is that four legs are "good" and two legs are "baaaad".
I better watch my leg count...I need to apply for high level top security clearance soon.
Thanks for the heads up, keith.

Personally, I spend most of my time editing wikis, but I'm a bit of an outlier. :-)
You might also chat with friends on IRC or one of the many MUCKS and other multiplayer worlds, hang out in Second Life, or read new posts on one of the many furry LiveJournals. Or read comics, of course. You might even be at a convention!
Hey Greenreaper,
All sound like interesting, non-CSI time passers. Thanks for the ideas. I'd love to hear more about what you do if you have the time?
Wow, Coll, this is by far your most popular post yet. Who knew that the fascinating world of furries would stir everyone's interests. Way to keep your finger on the pulse of the nation!
